This is a most unusual and rare ship's captain's collapsible brass speaking trumpet. 13 3/4 in. tall, fully extended, it folds down to about 3 in. Marked PAT APL. FOR on outer rim. In very good condition with just minor damage to the rim of the mouthpiece.

Provenance: Belonged to whaling master Charles Henry Wilbur, (1842-1877) who sailed on Young Phoenix, Seine, Ellen Rodman and Abram Barker. Ex. collection Barbara Johnson.
